Major: English Communications

Class of 2012

Favorite Pirate Experience: Going to see Stephen King speak. I’m absolutely in love with his writing, so the fact that I actually got to see him and sit no less than ten feet away from him was absolutely amazing. It will definitely be one of those things that I will tell people about in the future.

English Enthusiast

Since starting at Armstrong in the fall of 2008, I’ve been through a ton of majors. Every major I tried before English communications didn’t feel right. None of them captured my complete attention, so I finally decided to pursue my hobby and love of writing.

I switched to English and had finally found my niche. I loved the professors, and the material catered to all of my interests. The decision to switch majors did put me back a semester, but I don’t regret it in the least. I have learned so much about writing and have considerably honed my skills.

I am currently taking upper level classes with Christy Mroczek, instructor of English, and they are some of the most beneficial classes I have taken in my entire college career.  One of the classes is Writing for Nonprofits. Mroczek inspired me to make Armstrong my nonprofit of choice and is guiding me on how to search for possible funders to purchase technology for Gamble Hall after renovations are complete.

The project to obtain these funds is something that I’m passionate about and interested in. I really want to give back to the department that has assisted me in more ways than just making me a better writer. Being an English major at Armstrong and finally finding my niche has helped me on my journey as a student and to figure out my future.

One day I plan on getting my master’s and doctorate in English and would love to teach at a university.
